KC Professor Erin Landers Publishes Article In the “Illinois Associate of Teacher Education”

Kaskaskia College Professor, Dr. Erin Landers, has recently had an article published in the Illinois Associate of Teacher Education. This is the Illinois chapter of the America Association of Teacher Education. Both groups are well regarded for the work in supporting teacher education at all levels of teacher education, including undergraduate, graduate, and classroom teachers.

This is a double blind, peer reviewed journal with reviews from four-year teacher education programs throughout the country. These level of journals are considered the most prestigious as they signify new and original research by the author or authors.

Dr. Landers says “The focus of the article is the growth mindset. I, along with the co- authors, are studying how a grown mindset can improve learning. We are looking at how both the growth mindset makes teachers stronger practitioners and how it helps learners grow”.  The study looked at where first year pre-service teachers were in terms of their understanding of the growth mindset and how they responded to learning about a growth mindset.

Landers adds, “The long term goal is to help our students gain a greater understanding about growth mindset so they can use it in their own classrooms. We are also expanding our research to look at how current classroom teachers use a growth mindset and how we can support them in their use of this concept. Our goal is to focus on rural districts, particularly those with higher levels of low income students to improve their learning outcomes”.

Kellie Henegar, Dean of Arts and Sciences for Kaskaskia College says, “KC is very excited and proud that Dr. Landers has received this honor of being published in the Illinois Associate of Teacher Education publication.   This honor exemplifies Dr. Landers’ commitment to her continued growth and development in her profession.   The growth mindset concept is an area that has possibility to make a great impact on the future of education and our teacher education students at KC”.
