Vandalia’s Rachel Stewart Finds Success with Horizons Child Care

Rachel Leigh Stewart has found success as the Director of Horizons Child Care and Learning Center, located in the Family Worship Center Church in Vandalia.  Rachel is a Kaskaskia College grad who formerly was assistant director at The King’s Treasure Daycare/Preschool.

Rachel Stewart is a 1994 graduate of Vandalia Community High school and started attending classes at Kaskaskia College in the summer of 2002.  She graduated with her Associates Degree in Child Care in 2008, going to school part time.

While attending classes at the KC Vandalia Campus, Rachel started her career at The King’s Treasure in 2003, while her own children were enrolled there, to fulfill a requirement in a practicum class where she would be doing observations and practicing preparing and teaching lessons.  After graduating KC in 2008, she worked as a teacher at The King’s Treasure, working her way up to assistant director before the business closed its doors in May of 2012.  She has served as the Director at Horizons Child Care since the doors opened in June of 2012.

“KC was helpful because the classes were close to home and conveniently offered often, so I could take several classes, but not too many”, Rachel said. “After I started at The King’s Treasure Daycare/Preschool, I took evening classes which allowed me to attend classes and work.  The KC staff, Fran Rickman and Mary Schulze, and my teachers were all very helpful.”

Rachel continues to live in Vandalia with her husband and three children.  Her plans are to continue to provide quality child care for the Vandalia community at Horizons Child Care and Learning Center.
