Kaskaskia College Announces Kick Programming For July and August at Salem Education Center

The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College would like to announce the schedule for KICK classes to be held in July and August at the Salem Education Center located at located at 1475 West Whittaker Avenue in Salem.
 
It’s a Bug Life - Are insects driving you buggy? Scientists say that, at any given time, about 10 quintillion insects inhabit Earth. Why not take some time, as summer days -- and swarms of insects descend upon us -- to learn about these tiny animals.  This class will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 1 and 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through fifth grades and the cost to attend is $25.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5306 SA01D.
 
Scrapbooking - Design and create your own photo album. Using scrapbooking tools and techniques, you'll start your own album. By the end of the class you will have a general knowledge of scrapbooking.  Learn how to match colors, textures, and shapes to build an appealing page for your book.  Bring along some pictures!!  This class will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 8 and 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 3 and up and the cost to attend is $25.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5291 SA01D.
 
Reading for Kids - The reading unit will focus on different types of book genres.  Each book we look at will be accompanied by a lesson plan in each subject area to get students to understand that there is more to a book than just reading words: math, social studies, science, language arts, and art. Comprehension and vocabulary will be discussed, and students will explore how to read with expression through storytelling lessons.  This class will be held Wednesday and Thursday, July 10 and 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 2 -5 and the cost for the class is $20.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5217 SA01D.
 
Beading/Jewelry - Join the beading and jewelry making craze with a workshop where students will learn to make their own necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.  Learn to use the tools and choose beads and jewels to create jewelry.  The class will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 15 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 3 and up and the cost to attend is $25.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5222 SA01D.
 
Creative Writing - Let your pen and your imagination soar.  Learn to organize your thoughts and put them down on paper.  The class will be held Wednesday and Thursday, July 17 and 18 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  The writing class is for students in grades 5 to 8 and the cost to attend is $15.00.  The registration number is COED 5454 SA01D.
 
Arts and Crafts - A variety of fun and creative artistic projects will be the focus of this course. Some of the items that may be made are beads and bracelets, picture frames, mosaics, candles, soap and jewelry boxes. Bring creativity and you will have some fun!  The class will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 22 and 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The class is for students in kindergarten through fourth grades and the cost is $30.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5278 SA01D.
 
Storytellin' - Each day we will explore a great children's books with fun and exciting activities.  This interactive class may include creative dramatics, puppetry, music, movement and crafts.   This class will be held Wednesday and Thursday, July 24 and 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through fifth grades and the cost to attend is $25.00.

Pet Care - Learn how to properly car for your pet.  Learn to feet your pet, techniques for handling pets, and the proper way to wash them.  Remember pets are dependent on you for their well-being.  Students do not need to be a pet owner to attend.  The class will be held Tuesday, July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten and above and the cost to attend is $10.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5308 SA01D.
 
Tye Dying - Get the "wrap" on tye-dying through this fun, interactive workshop.  Design two of your own psychedelic T-shirts using a mixture of tye-dying techniques and effects.  Learn  this "groovy" technique and design original works of art for your family and friends.  Students are to bring 2 of their own white T-shirts. This is a messy class, dress appropriately!  This class will be held Monday and Wednesday, July 29 and 31 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  The class is for students in kindergarten through 8th grades and the cost is $25.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5210 SA01D.
 
Powerful Powerpoint – Students will learn to create a basic presentation using Powerpoint. The kids will create a fun Powerpoint presentation and will learn the necessary tools of the software.  The class will be held Thursday, August 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The class is for students in grades 5 – 8 and the cost is $20.00.  The registration number is CKICK 5225 SA01D.
