Shane Larson, Kaskaskia College’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach, has been named Coach of the Year by the Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) and was also notified that he has been named “Co-Coach of the Year” by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
Larson’s 2012-13 team had a historic season as they finished the year with a 24-9 overall record, 13-3 in the Great Rivers Conference. The 13 conference wins secured them the outright regular season conference championship. The Blue Angels went on to qualify for the NJCAA National Tournament with a win over rival Wabash Valley in the semi-finals of the Region 24 Tournament. Winning conference and qualifying for the national tournament was only the second time in school history for both achievements.
“I am very grateful for the recognition from the conference and the IBCA to be named coach of the year.,” Larson said. “The accomplishments our women’s basketball team has achieved this year is a testament to the quality programs we have here at KC. The honors I have received were truly a team effort by the girls. They have been a joy to coach this year and the season would not have been possible without their dedication.”
