KC Vandalia Campus to Offer Full Slate of Courses with Instructor Brad Brannon in Spring 2018 Semester

The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus will be offering several classes with instructor Brad Brannon in the spring 2018 semester.  Brannon is a Master Naturalist with over 20 years experience teaching Horticulture classes.  After a full list of classes were offered in the spring 2017 semester, a new slate of classes for the nature lover, gardener and naturalist are offered this spring. The 2018 classes are listed below.

 

Organic Farming and Gardening – What does it take to grown crops, vegetables and flowers without chemicals today? You will better understand the processes it takes to grow nutritious foods the new “old fashion way”. This class will be Tuesday, February 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The cost of this class is $10.00 and the registration number is COED 5101 VA01E

 

Spiritual Nutrition – Students will learn how the people of ole worked with what we are made of, water and minerals to build our health and true spark of life. Also this class with explain toxemia – the base cause of the disease -- and our Genetic Code.  This class will be Tuesday, February 13 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The cost of the class is $10.00 and the registration number is COED 5102 VA01E.

 

Nature Preserve Field Trip - Bremer Sanctuary/Hickory Hill Savanna Nature Preserve                                        

Bremer Sanctuary is the home of Hickory Hill Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society near the home of scores of birds.  It is also a showplace for natural areas restoration. Students on this field trip will enjoy the scenery at Roberts Cemetery Hickory Hill Savanna Nature Preserve which is home to many Illinois prairie grasses and herbs. This preserve has been in our back yard for 30 years and many are not aware. Come enjoy the beauty of nature. Bremer Sanctuary, 194 Bremer Lane, Butler, IL -- Hickory Hill located on North Road .5 miles from the Hillsboro square on the west side of the road. This class will be Monday, April 23 from 3:30-7:30 p.m.  The cost is $20.00 and the registration number is COED 5104 VA01D. 

 

Understanding Fungi (Mushrooms) – Students will learn the importance and identification of mushrooms used for culinary and medicinal purposes. In this class, students will be surprised at the number of fungi and their uses in our area.  This class will be Monday, April 30 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Cost for the class is $10.00 and the registration number is COED 5100 VA01E.

 

Nature Preserve Field Trip - Rock Cave Nature Preserve is located a short distance from Altamont on Route 128 N. Students will see upland and ravine forests, a permanent stream, sandstone cliffs and rock formations. Did you know, Rock Cave is the only area of its kind in the Illinois Nature Preserve System? It is, and you can join us on a beautiful spring evening and discover its wonders! From St. Elmo at junction highways 40 & 128, take Hwy. 128 north a few miles. The nature preserve is east of the highway. This class will be held Tuesday, May 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  Cost of the class is $10.00 and the registration number is COED 5104 VA01E.

 

Local Wild Plants and Flowers –Students will learn the benefits of the plants that grow out of place. Those plants we call Weeds! What weeds are edible? What do they tell us about the soil and the minerals in the ground? Why weeds are important? Find out the answers to these questions and more. This class will be held Tuesday, May 15 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The cost of the class is $10.00 and the registration number is COED 5103 VA01E.
