Massage Therapy

Program Philosophy
The Massage Therapy Program is built on coursework that develops the ability of students to think independently, to weigh values, to understand fundamental theory, and to develop skills for massage therapy practice, including critical thinking and communication. With committment to a strong competency-based foundation, continued education, and experience, the number of competencies should be adequate for entry-level and those existing competencies develop into proficiencies in a lifelong continuum.

Program Mission
The Massage Therapy Program mission is to produce entry-level massage therapists for the labor market while fostering attitudes toward life long education and development of skills.

Program Goals
  • To graduate students who will work as massage therapists in an ethical, legal, safe, and effective manner.
  • To graduate students who are competent in the practice and delivery of massage therapy techniques and interventions.
  • To graduate students who will demonstrate effective written, oral, and nonverbal communication with clients and their families, colleagues, and the public.
  • To graduate students who will effectively represent themselves, their roles, and their institutions as massage therapists.
  • To graduate students who will exhibit a love of learning and a passion for continued competence as massage therapists.
