Dental Assisting

Dental Assisting Program Objective:
The objective of the Dental Assisting Program is to provide educational opportunities that will enable individuals to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in the field of dental assisting. The dental assisting program is a sequence of courses that prepare a student for a position in Dental offices, schools, as well as for state and federal positions. The program provides learning opportunities to develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge, as well as skills required for job acquisition, retention and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of didactic and clinical instruction necessary for successful employment.

Program Specifics
  • All dental assisting courses are day classes and held at the main campus of Kaskaskia Community College.
  • The program-specific courses must be taken in the sequence shown on the curriculum chart.
  • Students must maintain a grade of C or better in all dental courses to remain in the program and to graduate.
  • Students can take the required general education courses any day or evening that does not interfere with the program schedule.
    • Helpful Hints: Students should consider taking PSYH 101 (Psychology) prior to entry into the Dental Assisting program in the fall.
  • Students are responsible for purchase of textbooks, workbooks, uniforms, and classroom supplies.
    • This information is presented at the orientation meeting.
