Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a modality that uses high frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to generate an image used for assessment and diagnosis of various medical conditions.
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) most recent edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook lists the diagnostic medical sonographer as an occupation that is separate and distinct from the radiology technologist at http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos273.htm
