Ms. Kelli is competitive and loves to train students in state and national competitions. She has been the trainer for KC's Skills USA Nail Care Competitor since 2009. Her competitors have all earned first place in the State of Illinois at Skills USA advancing each one to the national level competition. Nationally, she has had competitors place in the top 10 at Skills USA National Competition with her biggest achievements being her silver medalist competitor in 2012 and her gold medalist competitor in 2015. In 2016 she took a break from the competition arena to serve as a judge for Skills USA. She has served as a state and national level judge since 2016. She says she understands the hard work and commitment it takes to compete. She loves to see the creativity and skill that up-and-coming professionals display while competing.

"Competition takes students out of their comfort zone. Their confidence levels definitely rise after competitions and you can really see what they're made of. Most of the time, they surprise themselves with the level of success they reach. Watching their smiles beam from their faces when they're standing on the winners' podium with medals around their necks is a beautiful moment and one I'm always honored to share with them. My best advice for any cosmetology student is to shoot for the moon! Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars!" -Kelli Malone
