George Marcum
George was an outstanding all-around athlete at Centralia High School, graduating in 1954. George gained national recognition as he played basketball for Centralia Junior College in 1954-55. He was the second leading scorer in the nation as he averaged almost 30 points per game hitting over sixty-five percent of his field goal attempts and over eighty-five percent of his free throw attempts.
He was chosen on the All-Conference team, the NJCAA Region Two (IL-MO) All-Star team and was named to the NJCAA All-American team.
After one year at Centralia Junior College, George received a basketball scholarship to Kentucky Wesleyan College. He was the starting guard his Junior and Senior years. He averaged 15 ppg as the 1956-57 team finished second in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
